This week, we shine our PES Educator Spotlight on Ms. Veronica August. Ms. August teaches 4th and 5th grade ELA and 5th Grade Science and Social Studies. She has taught for 22 years here at PES. She has a Bachelor’s in Elementary Education with a concentration in SPED from Penn West Clarion and a Master’s in Implementing Technology in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Phoenix. Ms. August plans to keep teaching her heart out and educating students well into the future! We are so thankful that Ms. August has made the Panther Pride Den her home! #PESEducators #PESPantherPride

Join Us for Academic Night at Preston Elementary on Wednesday, November 20th! There will be Food Trucks & Warm Drinks starting at 5 PM and Games, a Book Raffle & more fun from 6-7:15 PM. Bring the whole family for an evening of learning, laughter, and community connection! Plus, we’re excited to support a food drive sponsored by the Ruritan Club. Donate a canned good or non-perishable food item at the event, and each student who donates will be entered in a drawing for free ice cream or snacks from the cafeteria! Winners will be announced the next day. We can’t wait to see you there for a night of fun and giving back!

In addition to having our Veterans Day program, today was also our annual Grandparents Day! We are so thankful that many of our grandparents could join their students today! Our grandparents attended classes, ate in our lunchroom, played at recess, and had a full day of fun! #PESPantherPride
🇺🇸 Today, our Preston Elementary family came together to honor and celebrate our nation’s heroes at our Veterans Day assembly. Thank you to all the veterans and guests who attended and made this day so special! A special shoutout to Superintendent Dr. Simmons, Board Member Troy Plutschak, our inspiring guest speaker Mr. Neil Elin, and Mr. List for organizing this wonderful program. Our Panther mascot made a special delivery today, awarding the very first 3 Multiplication Driver's Licenses to Kamden, Carson, and Isaid! 🎉 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders have been working hard, earning their multiplication brag tags, and are on the road to achieving their licenses. This week, we shine our PES Educator Spotlight on Mrs. Lisa Murray. Mrs. Murray has taught 3rd, 4th, and 5th-grade inclusion special education at PES for 30 years! She has a Master's in Special Education from UMES and a Graduate Certification in Autism from JHU. Mrs. Murray also has training and certifications in Lindamood Bell, Wilson Reading Intervention, OG+ Reading Intervention, and LETRS. Mrs. Murray is now planning for retirement as this is her farewell year! We are so thankful that Mrs. Murray has made the Panther Pride Den her home! #PESEducators #PESPantherPride

As we approach November, it is always a time to reflect upon all of our veterans and current service men and women in our country and the sacrifices that they make for us. Recently, one of our 3rd grade classes was able to have a visit with a very special airman! Airman Burns, former PES student, was able to visit mom (Mrs.Burns) and her 3rd grade class while on leave. This week, we shine our PES Educator Spotlight on Mrs. Katherine Watson. Mrs. Watson teaches 3rd grade at PES and has taught for 22 years! She has a Bachelor's in Elementary Education and History and a Master's in Building Elementary Literacy and Reading. She is also certified in LETRS, a requirement for the MSDE Science of Reading program. Mrs. Watson is a member of our Teacher Advisory Committee, our PBIS SIP Team, and the PES representative for the School System Improvement Council. Mrs. Watson plans on continuing to become the best teacher she can be, hopefully winning the lottery and retiring in the mountains in a cabin! We are so thankful that Mrs. Watson has made the Panther Pride Den her home! #PESEducators #PESPantherPride
