The eighth cohort of Advanced Manufacturing Program (AMP) students presented designs for their bird nesting boxes. This project is meant to be a shelter for a cavity-dwelling bird species native to the Delmarva Peninsula. The winning design was created by sophomore Quieten Doyle.

Students began the project by researching birds at Atkins Arboretum and visiting the Caroline County Bird Club. Each student selected a bird which focused their geared to that specific bird species. After researching, planning, and designing, the students were given an opportunity during a CCTC ‘pitch day’ to present their designs to business partners, school officials, government representatives, and their peers. Following the presentation, the audience voted to determine the winning design to be manufactured.

Teacher Keith Hale explained how this project has made many community connections with the AMP program and students. He is grateful for the businesses and members of the community who have supported the program, some since the beginning eight years ago. Mr. Hale also stated, “These partnerships have grown into stronger relationships - friendships. They truly care about the AMP Program and have invested themselves into the success of our students. In the end, the goal is a new, promising career at one of our local manufacturing companies.”

AMP students will have another chance to show their work when they make presentations to offer the finished product for sale.

AMP is taking pre-orders for these nesting boxes, which should be completed March 27th. If you are interested in purchasing, please email Mr. Keith Hale at hale.keith@ccpsstaff.org
