Nathan D’Olando, a North Caroline High School senior, recently signed Caroline’s fifth Youth Apprenticeship contract with Dan Phelan, Vice President of Gross Mechanical Laboratories, Inc., (Groco) in Stevensville, Maryland.
Nathan recently completed the Advanced Manufacturing Program with teacher Keith Hale at the Caroline Career and Technology Center (CCTC). The apprenticeship will expand on Nathan’s current knowledge and provide on-the-job training in the business world.
To finalize the apprenticeship agreement, a signing ceremony was held at Groco. Nathan, his mother Patricia D’Orlando, Groco Vice President Dan Phelan, and Caroline County Public Schools Assistant Superintendent Tara Downes, Director for College and Career Readiness Lindsey McCormick, and Youth Apprenticeship Coordinator Eric Cook were in attendance to sign the documents. Mr. John Strickland, representing the Maryland Department of Labor, also attended the event.
“We are appreciative of Mr. Phelan and Groco for stepping up to partner with CCPS on this Youth Apprenticeship,” Ms. McCormick said. “This is a mutually beneficial way for high school students to gain real-world experience and explore career paths while earning a paycheck.”
Groco has been in business since 1918. Located in Stevensville, Maryland, they manufacture quality marine, industrial and automotive hardware.
